Somewhere Over the Snowblow

Wait a second, did I hear that correctly? Is that the sound of paradise calling?
Wu-Lang Clan
Posted on January 22, 2020
I can’t resist a good opportunity for a pun. Iconic and revolutionary hip-hop artists, the Wu-Tang Clan shaped their genre and used the written word to write and re-shape the legacy of East-Coast rap. I’m a fan of artists Jiangmei Wu and Robert J. Lang (hence “Wu-Lang Clan”), both featured in Above the Fold and both visiting the Woodson Art Museum and kicking off 2020 in innovative and grand style.
That’s a Wrap

With Christmas a week away, I fear another day of shame for me, watching my wife and kids open presents with my dumpster fire of a wrapping job.
Back to School

The reason why I’m enthusiastic is not because I’m studying to learn how to start a business or work on Wall Street, but to be a better Woodson Art Museum employee.
Birds and “Big Ideas”
Posted on October 02, 2019
Each year, as Birds in Art inevitably sneaks up on me, I consider ways to share and interpret the avian-themed artwork with Museum docents, visiting students, and program participants. The annual process of looking for serendipitous themes or popular subjects in Birds in Art begins in May, when fellow curator of education Lisa Hoffman and I view small, printed images of exhibition artworks spread out on the library table by administrative manager Shari Schroeder.
The Perfect Situation

The Perfect Situation is the title of a graphite drawing by Sue deLearie Adair that’s among recent acquisitions by the Woodson Art Museum and also encompasses the opening earlier this month of the 2019 Birds in Art exhibition.
After months of work, hundreds of emails and phone calls, numerous Google searches, the production of a 134-page catalogue, artworks arriving from a dozen countries, and ultimately the installation in the galleries of 127 beautiful paintings, graphics, and sculptures, the Museum shares the exhibition with the public.
There Will Be Coffee

At the Woodson Art Museum, we love coffee. We love hot coffee, iced coffee, espresso, decaf, cold brew, and all types of mochas, lattes, and everything in between.
Rolling Out the Welcome, Matt

Two months ago, via this blog, I explained the numerous reasons the Woodson Art Museum was refurbishing its main parking lot. Two months later, I can safely say that all of those problems have been corrected.
Stretching to New Heights

Much folding, bending, and shaping occurs at the Woodson Art Museum, I realized during a recent origami project.
Rising Cranes – the newest addition to the sculpture garden – celebrates the paper-folding art of origami.
Inspired by Rising Cranes, many Museum members folded paper cranes during the summer’s exhibition preview reception. It was a lively time for those who participated.
