May is hustle-bustling along, as it does each year. The glorious angle of the sun’s rays produces light and once again, warmth . . . igniting a burst of busyness. Those who live in northern climes truly appreciate the enterprise awakened with the daffodils and by the robin’s song.

Soaking rain. Frost. Sunshine and fifty-five degrees. Forecasted snow. Spring break in Wisconsin.
My kids and I are enjoying a “staycation.” I’m at the Woodson Art Museum typing away and they are around the house soaking up the no-school vibes. We’ll escape for a day trip to a favorite educational and entertaining venue in Chicago.

December is that special time of the year when school events, family gatherings, meal planning, travel, and dozens of other non-holiday projects on the to-do list start to drive most of us up the wall. While staff at the Woodson Art Museum aren’t anxiously scaling the walls yet, we do have quite a bit on our plates these days and even more exciting projects on the horizon.

Actually, for four decades it’s been THE big deal in avian art – worldwide. And, 2015 is no exception.
Preparation for the 40th Birds in Art at the Woodson Art Museum began after the opening weekend of the 39th, and work steadily progresses and reaches a frenzy about . . . now.
Hidden in Plain Sight

I confess: I’m a notorious metaphor-mixer – a veritable verbal cyclone of words and dashes. At a keyboard, however, I more capably lasso and tame the beast. So with some trepidation, I use the phrase “hidden in plain sight” to encourage all ages to explore Art Park, the Woodson Art Museum’s interactive family gallery.

Seeing Art Park day after day, I know what a valuable resource it is for children and their parents. Kids get to play, learn, and foster creativity in a fun, safe environment, all for free.
