WAUSAU, WISCONSIN: A nine-day online vote ended March 8 to select which photographs will be included in a Student Photography Exhibition at the Woodson Art Museum, March 26 through May 31.
Wausau-area high school students participated in a six-month photography project, including workshops and conducting their own photo shoots to explore the question “what makes Wausau a great place to live?”
In September, Arizona-based artist Brooke Shaden led a workshop focused on how a single image can tell a story. Area art students explored visual narratives in photography and developed a photo shoot with Shaden. Students participating in the photography project joined Shaden and Dave Junion of Junion Photography for an offsite photo shoot tutorial and lessons from the photographers in camera settings, effective imagery and environments, visual storyboards, and how to communicate their chosen narratives aesthetically.
In December, students visited the Art Museum to view and discuss 50 Greatest National Geographic Photographs with Junion and engage in critiques of one another’s photographs.
Community members voted online – Saturday, February 28 through Sunday, March 8, 2015 – to select photographs to be exhibited at the Woodson Art Museum, March 26 through May 31. Community members and businesses will have the opportunity to adopt, i.e., purchase, photographs during the exhibition.
A reception at the Woodson Art Museum, Thursday, March 26, 5-7 pm, celebrates students’ efforts.
