Teens Invited to Create Wear Your Words Upcycled Artwork

Wausau, Wisconsin: Area teens are invited to attend workshops, beginning April 1, to create “Wear Your Words” social-action artworks – clothing made from recycled materials – and receive suggestions from an artist before the work is displayed at the Woodson Art Museum this spring.

Teens develop a social-action slogan and artwork-creation plan during the first workshop in the series, led by a Woodson Art Museum educator, Tuesday, April 1, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Marathon County Public Library Wausau Headquarters, 300 N. First St., Wausau.

During “Wear Your Words” workshops in April and May, teens will brainstorm slogans and create garments and accessories designed to be eye-catching and thought-provoking social-action statements. During the final May 2 work session, students meet and work with artist and environmental advocate Nancy Judd, whose “ReDress” upcycled artworks will be on view this spring at the Woodson Art Museum in Wausau. The teens’  “Wear Your Words” creations will be presented at the Museum May 10 through June 15.

Teens interested in participating should plan to attend the following workshops:

  • Tues., April 1, 6:30-8 p.m., at the Marathon County Public Library, 300 N. First St., Wausau
  • Tues., April 15, 5:30-8 p.m., at the Woodson Art Museum, 700 North Twelfth St., Wausau
  • Sat., April 26, Noon-5 p.m.,  at the Woodson Art Museum
  • Fri., May 2, 6-8 p.m., at the Woodson Art Museum with artist Nancy Judd

During a reception, Saturday, May 10, 1-3 p.m., at the Woodson Art Museum, the public is invited to preview the work of area teens who have worked together and also with Nancy Judd to create social-action upcycled garments. The “Wear Your Words” exhibition remains on view at the Museum through June 15.
