On the first Thursday of each month, the Museum offers extended hours for visitors to get the chance to explore the galleries and grounds. First Thursdays in the summer are even more special because they include Sculpture Garden Yoga, a beginner-friendly class taught by instructors from 5 Koshas Yoga and Wellness. I began participating in these classes last summer. Who doesn’t like a little after-work zen?
This year, the Museum decided to start this program in May. However, May’s weather can be unpredictable, so we had to make sure there was a backup plan if Mother Nature was not going to allow us to be outside in the Sculpture Garden.
Last Thursday kicked off our summer yoga sessions, and (of course) the weather did not permit the use of the Sculpture Garden. Fortunately, there was enough open gallery space to allow us to hold class indoors and participants were able to get a sneak peek at Women Reframe American Landscape before it officially opened over the weekend.
We ventured into a yoga class set amidst the breathtaking beauty of the exhibition. Together, we found harmony between the fluidity of our movements and the stillness of the artwork. The exhibition provided the perfect serene backdrop for an hour of grounding our bodies and minds.
I highly encourage you to stop into the Museum soon to view the stunning artworks by Susie Barstow and her circle of nineteenth-century female landscape artists, as well as the captivating works of thirteen internationally acclaimed contemporary artists that make up Women Reframe American Landscape.
I also hope to see you in the Sculpture Garden during our next yoga session on June 6th at 5:30. Sign up for next months’ session here. We can zen out together, and then check out the galleries!
