Currently on view at the Woodson are two exhibitions drawn from the Museum’s permanent collection, A Civic Wilderness, inviting viewers to reflect on the intricate relationship between the urban and the natural, and From Concept to Canvas: The Artistic Process, highlighting the various stages of artistic development, offering a glimpse into the creative process.
The start of new exhibitions is an exciting, yet busy time for everyone at the Museum. For me, that means new promotional materials need to be ordered, sorted, and distributed throughout the community. In the next few days, I will be spending some time driving around Wausau to hang up new exhibition posters and fill brochure racks with events calendars. This time offers me a change of scenery as well as an opportunity to explore this beautiful city we call home.
In the spirit of A Civic Wilderness, I am looking forward to taking a few extra moments to find pieces of the natural world in more “unnatural” places. There is beauty in seeing how the critters of our area adapt to the ever-changing landscape of Wausau, but it also challenges us to think about how we can maintain an environment for them to thrive in. We are very fortunate to live in a place that emphasizes the importance of nature and providing a connection to it in the form of parks, trails, and a beautiful lake and river system – my “PR runs” around town are a constant reminder of that.
While you are out and about, I encourage you to slow down and find those pockets of nature in the urban areas of our community. Snap a photo of your rendition of A Civic Wilderness and share it with us!
