Woodson Art Museum staff gathered on Monday for a holiday luncheon that included good food, tasty treats, lively conversation, lots of laughter, and a challenging memory game. We even had a large tray of curator of collections Jane Weinke’s homemade cookies that have earned her well-deserved fame.
Museum Elves Make Magic

Perhaps it’s the holiday season that has me thinking about elves. Although at the Woodson Art Museum, elves really are busy year round.
The elf vision that pops into my mind now – along with sugar plum fairies – is the magic-making variety. I’m specifically thinking this time of year about the Museum’s volunteer docents, who are responsible for magic-making experiences for visiting groups of all ages.

December is that special time of the year when school events, family gatherings, meal planning, travel, and dozens of other non-holiday projects on the to-do list start to drive most of us up the wall. While staff at the Woodson Art Museum aren’t anxiously scaling the walls yet, we do have quite a bit on our plates these days and even more exciting projects on the horizon.

Recently I spent eight amazing days in New York City. The Woodson Art Museum’s director Kathy Foley and I immersed ourselves in the art, culture, food, aromas, and sounds of the Big Apple during the annual American Art Week. A truly sensational experience.

A New Nest

When I walk through the Woodson Art Museum’s galleries featuring the 40th anniversary of Birds in Art, one piece catches my eye. Memory by Minnesota artist Wendy Brockman depicts a bird’s nest entangled with bittersweet. Something about the piece makes me view it closer and reflect.
