A Pear, a Pepper, and a Peapod Walk into a Workshop

Posted on April 13, 2022
Art Park, the Woodson Art Museum’s interactive gallery, is arguably one of the most popular spaces at 700 N. 12th Street. While the spring glass exhibitions are well underway, team Art Park is now focused on our next round of re-landscaping for the summer exhibition, Abundant Future: Cultivating Diversity in Garden, Farm, and Field. Abundant Future consists of botanical artworks depicting cultivated plant species such as eggplants, radishes, and ancient grains like millet and sorghum.

Share Glassmaking Moments

Excitement is building for a spectacular admission-free feature – glassmaking demonstrations, April 29-May 8, when glowing, molten glass will be transformed into sparkling objects at the Woodson Art Museum. The ten days of live, narrated glassmaking demonstrations coincide with National Travel and Tourism Week and provide perfect opportunities for exactly what the Wisconsin Department of Tourism is emphasizing in its Travel Wisconsin promotions this year: shared moments of joy.

A Burchfield Backstory

Recently acquired by the Woodson Art Museum, American artist Charles Burchfield’s large-scale watercolor, Brooding Bird, radiates the power of nature: calligraphic strokes describe vibrating, leafless trees at the horizon line.

The Gift of Sight

Posted on March 23, 2022
I’ve never taken my eyesight for granted. It’s a valued gift, to be sure, that not only impacts my art museum work, but brings joy in immeasurable ways. In the galleries, colors – resplendent in both the Art Deco Glass and Molten exhibitions – are more vivid than I had previously observed.

A Few Types of Fans

Posted on March 16, 2022
From my observations, museum workers are museum fans. We have our lists of favorites, but in general, we like them all. There must be an unwritten rule; no matter the institution you work for, when going to a city, you must explore its museums.

Getting Acquainted with Student Art

Posted on March 09, 2022
With over 70 artworks on view through April 10, it’s clear that both educators and students in central and north central Wisconsin are enthusiastic and passionate about visual arts.

Hit the Briqs

Although spring – let alone summer – are in the distant future, those little signs of warmer weather get you through winter, especially when you’re planning for the next season.

Glad to Be in the Galleries

Posted on February 23, 2022
This winter, I’ve welcomed opportunities to work with visitors in the galleries, from Art Cluster students to a first-year class from the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Central Wisconsin campus. No matter the group, I always enjoy conversing about art on view and learning what appeals to different audiences.

Cool February Views

Posted on February 16, 2022
During a month filled with relevant celebrations, it seems fitting to highlight the power of images to spark interest far and wide. February – filled with celebrating children’s authors and illustrators, black history, and valentines – began with warm fuzzies for a cool creation.

It’s Always Birds in Art Time . . .

Posted on February 09, 2022
With an annually organized exhibition, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that in one way or another, someone at the Woodson Art Museum is always working on an aspect of Birds in Art. Distribution of the 2022 exhibition prospectus is a priority now, as Elaina’s recent blog and “how-to-submit” video emphasized. It’s a source of pride that the Woodson Art Museum remains committed to Birds in Art; the show will go on.
