A Winter Guide to the Woodson

By: Bryce Cebula, marketing and communication manager on February 19th, 2025

Living in Wisconsin, we experience all four seasons. Though, if you’re anything like me, winter is at the bottom of your list. Shoveling snow, driving on icy roads, and bundling up constantly can be unpleasant. Unfortunately for us winter-haters, Punxsutawney Phil recently sentenced us to a few more weeks of it.

The best way to cure the winter blues is to find something to distract yourself from the frigid conditions outside. Luckily, the Woodson has plenty of indoor activities to brighten your days. Whether you are looking for a family-friendly activity to fill your Saturday afternoon or wanting to learn a new skill during one of our weeknight workshops, our events calendar has something that will pique your interest.

In the next few weeks, the Museum will be turning over its galleries to welcome two new and exciting exhibitions. Kimono: Garment, Canvas, and Artistic Muse explores the profound significance of the kimono within Japanese culture, while also highlighting how it continues to inspire modern creations. Gridiron Garments focuses on the history of pro football uniform design and shows their evolution through player-worn artifacts.

If you are a true fan of winter, fear not, we have something for you too. Team USA snow sculptors recently completed a stunning scene inspired by Survival of the Fittest. Venture out onto the Museum’s campus to see their work, which will remain on view so long as the weather allows it.

Winter doesn’t have to be dreadful. As much as I want to stay hunkered down under a pile of blankets most days, engaging in activities during the cold months has helped me adopt a more positive mindset. Check out the Museum’s online events calendar for a full list of upcoming programs and exhibitions.

And hang in there, spring is right around the corner.
