A few months ago, I had the opportunity to join the Wausau Lyric Choir for its spring semester. After discovering all the music we would be singing for our spring concert was either composed or arranged by women, I had to go and check my calendar. It just so happened that the Museum was opening Women Reframe American Landscape, an exhibition featuring solely female artists, just days after the choir’s concert. I knew we had to capitalize on this coincidence and try to partner with the choir to amplify these similar messages.
Luckily, the choir was just as excited as I was to make a collaboration happen. After talking with Museum staff, we decided to ask the choir to perform at our members opening event for Women Reframe American Landscape last Friday evening. It was a joy to bring my passions for both art and music together to help provide what I hope was an entertaining evening for all who attended. Being able to bring people together to shine light on female artists of all types – both in the community and beyond – made the night extra special for Museum staff and choir members alike.
The Woodson Art Museum has long collaborated with local organizations to offer diverse programming with the goal of reaching as many members of the community as possible. The Landing senior social club, SPARK! programming for people with memory loss, the Marathon County Public Library, the Wisconsin Valley Art Association, and the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra are just a few examples of partnerships we consider essential to the success of our mission. As the Museum continues to evolve as an organization, we hope to strengthen our existing community partnerships and develop new connections to help make sure the arts in Central Wisconsin continue to flourish for years to come.
